Adaptation B: Ludlow Final Character Concept

Based on the feedback from both the style concepts and from the pitch I decided to go into further development into the version 3 of Ludlow. From here I would then start to break down the character to see how different expressions would look, the clothes he wears and how he would act before finally modelling him in 3D in Maya

Adaptation B: Style Concept for Ludlow and Joe

Fig 1: Concepts of styles for Ludlow

Fig 2: Concepts of styles for Joe

Some digital concepts of style ideas for the two characters varying from somewhat realistic to a more cartoon style. Basing the general attributes of the characters from their descriptions in the book as well as using influences like otters for Ludlow's head and face shape in one of the designs.

Original Work- Space Octo Attack

This is a drawing that I did where I wanted to focus on perspective and octopi ;v; I want to experiment more with colour and contrast like what the artist Tomer Hanuka does where he picks a colour palette and sticks to it until he gets bored and makes up another one. It seems like a very interesting way of working and I have also been looking at the works of Yoiko Yokochou who has a very fun style that is varied and very expressive, she enjoys drawing men as weak and women as strong beasts and its interesting to look at :D

Fantastic Voyage: Animatic WIP

At this point in time I am just inserting the frames for the animatic, animating all of this in photoshop using the layering method. Some of the timing is a bit off but I will try and sort out the pacing when all of the frames are inserted and the subtitles that will introduce the characters (Bacteria, Lymphocyte B and T, as well as the Antibodies) will be done in either Premiere or in another layer as so to not interfere with the frames already there.

Animation: Animating on Photoshop

Due to me leaving my memory stick at home, I wasn't able to do my lip sync animation. So instead I looked at the work of Alex Grigg, the maker of the short film Phantom Limb, and watched his tutorial for animating in Photoshop. I like the results of animating in Photoshop as the limitations and the way that it is like a hybrid between Flash, Aftereffects and Photoshop makes it very interesting and fun to use.

Fantastic Voyage: Thumbnails for Potential Film Idea

An Early Piece of Concept of the cells

Fig 1: Designs for the Bacteria and B Lymphocytes

Fig 2: Designs for the Antibodies

Fig 3: Some more Bacteria Thumbnails

Fig 4: Size Differences between the Antibodies, B cell and Bacteria

Fig 5: T Lymphocyte concept and a Size Comparison with the other cells

These are some thumbnails based on one of my idea for the "Bacteria vs The Immune System" prompt. The Idea was the bacteria being a criminal and The Immune System acting as a police force. The plan is that each character will have its scientific form and a humanoid form as well, as being targeted to teenagers doing their GCSE I think its a good idea to have them know what the cells look like while still having fun with the character design of them.

From Script to Screen: Environmental Concept Art of the Yeti Palace and Forrest Clearing

Castle Exterior

Queen's Bedroom

Living Room

Mirror Hall
Forrest Clearing

These are my concept art for the environment of the Yeti castle exterior and interior, I wanted to use a primarily cool palette for the castle with the browns and orange for the wooden features like cabinets and have the majority of the Queens possessions being purple while the Kings is a dark blue/ teal.
For the forrest clearing in end of my film I want it to display more variety in colours, showing that the Yeti King is going towards a more colourful, brighter and warmer future, so more greens and yellows are implemented.
I would like to return to these pieces later on to continue to edit them some more, mainly to work out iffy perspectives some more and fiddle with the colour palettes, but overall I do like how they have come out, especially the bedroom piece as I had the most trouble figuring out how to draw it from the angle I drafted it in.

From Script to Screen: Storyboard Redone

I have made some changes like adding a mini plot of the Snow King building a bird cage for the bird as their way of connecting before the climax of the film.

From Script to Screen: Castle Design

Fig 1: Influence Map for the Castle
Fig 2: Draft 3/4 View of the Back of the Castle

Fig 3: Front and Back View of the Castle
For the redesign of the castle I looked into some Asian palaces, from around the Tibetan and Bhutan as well as some Indian palaces that have an asymmetrical architecture and jagged, angular structures. I also looked at frozen over waterfalls as the natural way they form helped in thinking of how I want the castle to look as an ice palace for a big creature like a yeti.

From Script to Screen: Character Design- Snow King and Snow Queen

Fig 1: Yeti Influence Map

Fig 5: Colour Palette
While yeti's in mythology are primarily associated with a masculine figure, and usually they are assumed to be some sort of gorilla. I tried to add other factors in, especially for the Snow Queen, included how the fur around animals like sheep and alpacas form around their faces and making her round and less of a threatening figure then the Snow King. I'm still not sure if they should have fangs or not so feedback on that or anything about the designs are very welcome :)

Personal Work- Great Aunt's House

As my Great Aunt and Uncle are very hard to buy for, this Christmas my Mum got me to draw their house to stick in a photo frame to give to them. So after a few sneaky trips round to take reference photos that made us look like we were scoping the place out to burgle it, and a few days drawing it out, I finally got it done to be printed just before the printing shop closed for the holidays :')
Ahh I hope she likes it...

Production Art: Building Layout Ideas/ Doors and Windows Thumbnails [Feedback Please]

Fig 1: Door Designs
Fig 2: Window Designs

Fig 3: Green Building Designs

Fig 4: Blue Tear Shaped Building Designs

Fig 5: White Building Designs

I made up some additional production art thumbnail pieces of my buildings as a result of the feedback from my OGR, regarding windows and doors being too generic and how they dont connect to the rest of the city. From this I went to research into old spainish buildings and experimented with basic shapes. I have the colours for the buildings relatively set already, as shown from the final concept piece, so all I wanted to do here for the moment was sort out the layout of the building structure and of the designs of the windows and doors. this was done as a way to see if I am on the right track with these before neatening them up in Illustrator. So feedback is very much welcome!

What if? Metropolis: Colour Compositions

Here are some colour compositions I've done for my final concept art ideas. I wanted to keep the red sun as a fundamental part of my city, I have it heavily featured in my travelogue and it's part of the upper city of Pilar's "culture". So red highlights would feature a lot in the piece. However I might go back and try out different types of highlight, (like making the red softer or harder in tone perhaps). Some of the colours used are based on the background colours Miró himself uses, while others were experimentation with some Photoshop Adjustment Layers.

What if? Metropolis: Production Art-Concept Ideas

Here are a few draft ideas of some buildings, lamposts and flag designs for my city, Pilar. Some of them are based on Miró's paintings of women, others are based on his sculptures and some are based on some of his abstract works that focus on blue and orange, mainly because I wanted to branch out of using primarily red and green. I want my city to include these flag-like props, as many of Miró's abstract work features this element.
I plan on doing more in the future that aren't as focus on Miró's work and are more influenced on his use of shape and colour placement instead.

What if? Metropolis: Thumbnails 76-81 [Final Concept Art Drafts]

Fig 1: Thumbnails 76-77

Fig 2: Thumbnails 78-81

Fig 3: Thumbnail 81

In these Thumbnails I'm trying to figure out how to set up my final concept art. I want to have a sense of scale from the feminine buildings of the town square (based on Miró's pieces "Nude, 1926" and "Portrait of Mrs Mills in 1750 (after Constable), 1929") to the towering figure of the building dedicated to the red sun at the top of the hill, which I plan to do as part of the Matte Painting. I want to work on perspective more for this, so Thumbnails after this will be just about sorting out that as well as experimenting with building placement, whether to make it symetrical or asymetrical.
